Our team of specialists are from various fields such as microbiology, microbiome physiology, bioinformatics and nutrition, with extensive experience and understanding of microbiology inside human guts, especially of Thai people. We also use advanced AI to collect and analyze studies on microbiomes that affect our well-being, to help constantly improve the accuracy of our analyses and evaluations.
We can sequence, analyze, and provide individualized microbiome data with high accuracy, and use this information to better care for your health. We work with our partners to provide consultations on gut microbiome for development of medicine supplements, or meals that best suit each individual.
We aim to be the knowledge center of gut microbiome of ASEAN countries. After discovering the difference in microbiome between Thai people and people from other regions, we began consolidating microbiome data of people specifically in Thailand and ASEAN countries, to advance health care both locally and regionally.
Modgut was started by a team of microbiome researchers led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supapon Cheevadhanarak upon discovering the secret link between gut microbiome and our well-being. She and her team then participated in researches with the American Gut Microbiome Project by submitting feces samples to this project in the USA.
Test results found that around 10 feces samples of Thai people contained gut microbiome that differed from those of people of different race with different eating habits, particularly westerners. Another interesting fact was that the types of microbiome found in some Thais resembled those found in overweight people, when in fact those Thais weren’t even overweight.
It was then concluded that the types of microbiome found in Thais differ from those in people from other regions for various reasons, one of which is the type of food consumed over long periods.
This made the researchers even more determined to build up gut microbiome database and knowledge specifically for people in Thailand and ASEAN countries, to provide them with the best appropriate health care.
Over the last 10 years, there has been a great increase in interest and studies on gut microbiome relating to human well-being and to specific individual.
Some diseases are caused by an imbalance in gut microbiome or an irregular increase of certain types of bacteria, such as Fusobacteria that has been observed to increase notably in patients suffering from colorectal cancer.
And what’s interesting is the process of altering microbiome components in the digestive system to help ease the symptoms and conditions of many diseases without any negative side effects on Patient health. This process is now widely accepted and has been developed into disease prevention and therapy programs that can be personalized for each individual.
With the increasing knowledge and evidences from gut microbiome studies, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supapon realized its importance and gained strong support from the board of KMUTT to further research on this. They saw the opportunity to educate the public on the importance of gut microbiome and their direct impact on health, and how people can change their habits to care for themselves better. Research was then carried out on gut microbiome of KMUTT staffs and students which eventually lead to the creation of this Modgut project, followed by Mod Gut Company Limited.
